There is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.
Luke 8:17
**
Lies. If I could compile all the lies and make them into a bonfire….
Lies steal something. If you are a liar, you’re not too distant from a thief. You take things that do not belong to you. You do it through deception, stealing the truth, hiding and distorting, taking what wasn’t freely given.
Why must you do this? Why have you done this? What good will come from what you have tainted? What will it profit you to attempt to destroy what is supposed to be a blessing to you? Why would you destroy yourself for such a small gain? Who is it that will suffer? Why is your heart so vain, and your thoughts this foolish? Why would you pay with your life, what should have helped made your days long?
What is it that you think you have gained with your lies? Nothing tangible, I assure you. Your own shame and humiliation, certainly. Confusion, for sure. Distress, undoubtedly. Pleasure that’ll soon melt into poverty, pain. You and your lies will perish together. You spent your days steeped in unkindness; wicked deeds unbecoming of you. And it was all vain pursuits.
There’s nothing to gain from lies, nothing to boast about. When it all comes to light it’ll be to your shame. And great will be your shame.
Your lies have expired. If a thief is caught, he has to repay 7 times what he stole, and it may cost him all that he owns. Is what you stole worth losing everything? Is it a valuable trade for you? A good deal? Did you think you were taking something and it’d cost you nothing? It will cost you even what you were not willing to offer.
I said I wish I could take all the lies and burn them in a bonfire. But that’s frustration talking. I wish I could take all the lies and bind them to the people who fashioned them and set them on fire. But it won’t come to that. Those who live by the sword will die by it. Every thief will get caught and repay more than what they took.
Why do you boast, you deceitful tongue. God’s goodness endures forever. You love evil more than good, lying rather than speaking righteous. God will likewise destroy you forever; he will tear you away from your tent, and uproot you from the land of the living.
