"Give yourself a gift, the present moment."
Marcus Aurelius
***
As the year is wrapping up, I find that I’m looking forward to a few things: one of which is returning to my love of books. It has been many years since I’ve read a satisfying book and read, not for improvement or self-development, but for enjoyment. What happened to my days of doing things for the sake of their enjoyment? That’s definitely going on the list. Enjoyment.
But I don’t want to write a long thing today. It’s Christmas.
I think enjoyment will be the gift that’ll keep on giving from now until this time next year, and that’s what I’ll gift myself this year. Making room for enjoyment, and accepting it.
I’ve already dusted off some unread books, and I’m determined to get started before January 1st. I guess, what I'm looking forward to is what I've already started in the present. Perhaps the real gift is the present, doing in the present what I often relegate to the future.
What is it that you are doing for yourself or plan to do for yourself this 2025?
