How many bodies are in your body?
How many people are walking inside of you,
demanding your attention?
How many bodies are lying dormant;
Who, when you are at peace, slither
like
a hungry snake and torment your peace?
How many bodies have you buried in
yourself?
Shallow graves that you stumble on from time to time,
that you cease to acknowledge because
you are "over it."
They need a proper burial. Can you offer them that?
Or do you like to remember them? Is that how you punish
yourself,
to remind yourself: never again?
Why won't you let them go?
Why don't you cleanse your mind, your
body, your spirit
of the carcasses that you've collected.
You have too many spirits inside of
you.
Unfurl your grip.
Release.
"Drop a name in the water.
And another.
and another.
and another."*
Be empty of them.
Be full of you.
Let them go. *Nejma by Nayirrah Waheed
